Privilege in the Classroom

He began speaking…
Completely unaware of his place in society,

He comes closer to me, but pays me no attention,
I am uncomfortable.

Every time he gives an example my experience as a womyn of color in a post- secondary institution is invalidated,

He comes closer to me, but pays me no attention.
I feel very uncomfortable.

Unaware of the space he is invading,
Taking what he think is his, this space.

He comes closer to me, but pays me no attention,
I feel very very uncomfortable.

He was taught that this was his right,
Nobody has ever told him otherwise,

He comes CLOSER to me, but pays me no attention,
I feel worried.

This space is not mine, it has NEVER been mine.
When I walked in here I thought I could take it back.

He comes closer to me, but pays me no attention,
I feel very worried.

This is were he has been told he belongs,
This is where I wish I had the courage to correct him.

He comes closer to me, but pays me no attention,
I feel scared.

My heart is beating as hard

Because I have no space,

This has been his space for years
